The Department of Neuroscience at the University of Lethbridge seeks an exceptional neuroscientist to fill a position at the Assistant Professor level. This is a probationary (tenure track) appointment, beginning July 1, 2020. Candidates must have demonstrated excellence in research on human cerebral function, with systems-level and/or computational approaches, utilizing state-of-the-art imaging methods, including MRI.

The position will reside in the Canadian Centre for Behavioural Neuroscience (CCBN), which is housed within the most advanced facility for science education and research in Canada, the newly constructed Science and Academic Building. Within this world-class research facility, the CCBN is equipped with exceptional infrastructure, including: 3 NMRs, electron microscope, multiphoton and several confocal microscopes, high throughput digital imaging, flow cytometer, deep sequencing platform, in vitro recording facilities, multiple in vivo ensemble single unit recording suites, PCR, dense-array human EEG, voltage and calcium imaging lab, dedicated parallel computing cluster, numerous state-of-the-art surgical and behavioural testing suites. The CCBN also hosts a newly constructed human 3T MRI unit.

The successful applicant will interact with a research-intensive group, all of whom focus on fundamental problems in the neurobiology of cerebral functioning. The successful applicant will develop a research program focusing on mechanisms underlying normal or disordered complex processes, including memory, perception, action, social behaviour, emotion, and/or neurodevelopment in humans. In addition, interest and accomplishment in working in systems neuroscience with non-human animals are an asset. Our department has embarked on an expansion of research in the areas of human cognitive neuroscience and translational research in brain and mental health. The centrepiece of this expansion is a newly installed 3T Siemens Skyra scanner, and the successful candidate will be a foundational member of this new research initiative.

Tenure Stream Position in Behavioural Neuroscience – University of Toronto Scarborough

The Department of Psychology at the University of Toronto Scarborough (UTSC) invites applications for a tenure-stream appointment in Behavioural Neuroscience. The appointment will be at the rank of Assistant Professor and will begin on July 1, 2020, or shortly thereafter.

We seek applications from candidates with an excellent research record in fundamental neurobiological mechanisms of behaviour in non-human animals, including rats, mice and other vertebrates. Applicants must demonstrate an integrative, multidisciplinary approach in their research. Areas of interest may range from molecular and cellular to systems level approaches, and must complement existing departmental strengths at UTSC in the fields of learning and memory, motivation, emotion, addiction, cognition and neurodevelopment.

The successful candidate must have a PhD in Psychology, or a closely related field, by the time of appointment or shortly thereafter. They must also have an emerging record of excellence in research as demonstrated by publications in top ranked and field relevant academic journals or a research pipeline that is at high international levels, the submitted research statement, presentations at significant conferences, awards and accolades, and strong endorsements by referees of high standing. The successful candidate will be expected to pursue innovation and independent research at the highest international level and to provide evidence of an ability to build an excellent, competitive, world-class externally funded research program.

The candidate must also demonstrate excellence in teaching. Evidence of excellence in teaching will be provided through teaching accomplishments, the teaching dossier, a teaching statement, sample course syllabi, and the teaching evaluations submitted as part of the application, as well as strong letters of reference. The successful candidate will provide evidence of readiness to undertake undergraduate and graduate research supervision and teaching and be expected to perform standard professional and administrative activities typical of a department and/or university. Tier 2 Canada Research Chairs in Stem Cell Biology at Simon Fraser University

The Faculty of Science is building capacity in the area of stem cell biology and we seek outstanding candidates who engage in basic stem cell biology and investigate mechanisms with translational research opportunities relevant to disease. One chairholder will work in the area of developmental neuroscience or neurodegeneration, while the other is open, with a preference for cancer, cardiac, or immunological stem cell research. Presently, we have several facilities and Centres related to this initiative. Our active local collaborations include partners such as StemCell Technologies, BC Children’s Hospital Research Institute (BCCHR), the BC Cancer Agency, and the University of British Columbia (UBC). Additionally, in January 2020 we are submitting a $24M infrastructure grant to the Canadian Foundation for Innovation (CFI) in collaboration with UBC and BCCHR in support of a regional stem cell facility.

We are seeking emerging leaders in stem cell biology that will be highly collaborative with SFU faculty, regional hospitals, and industry partners. They are also expected to bring innovative experimental approaches or novel modes of exploiting existing methods to complement and expand strengths at SFU. Canada Research Chair Tier 2 position in biological psychology – Brock University

Postdoctoral Position in Systems Neuroscience – University of Toronto Scarborough

The Arruda-Carvalho lab is looking for a highly motivated applicant to lead a collaborative, HFSP-funded project focusing on the neural mechanisms of fear generalization in mice. The project will include experiments spanning behaviour, slice electrophysiology, stereotaxic surgery, fiber photometry and optogenetics. The project is part of a collaborative grant with the Grewe lab in the University of Zurich and the Kheirbeck lab at UCSF.

We are looking for applicants with a PhD in neuroscience, biology, psychology or closely related field. Experience with rodent research is necessary. Experience with slice electrophysiology (whole cell patch clamping) and stereotaxic surgery is wanted but not a requirement.

New Principal Investigator position in adult neurological diseases using zebra fish approaches at the CHUM Research Center – Department of Neuroscience, Faculty of Medicine, Université de Montréal

The Research Centre of CHUM (CRCHUM) in partnership with the Department of Neurosciences of the Université de Montréal (UdeM) is seeking applicants for a principal investigator position at the rank of assistant or associate research professor in the field of neuroscience and the specific use of zebrafish for the study of adult neurological disorders. The ideal candidate will be zebrafish neurobiologist with a strong expertise in transgenic, genetic and genetic regulation.

The new principal investigator will play a key role in complementing the research strengths of the CRCHUM especially in neurosciences. The mission of the CRCHUM-Neuroscience research axis is to elucidate the biological, environmental and social mechanisms of adult neurological diseases and to develop novel and innovative therapies to prevent, treat or cure them. The research activities incorporate clinical, basic and translational research and focus on neurodegeneration/neurorepair, neuroimmunology, neurovascular/stroke and epilepsy. Requirements

Postdoctoral Position: Examining differences in neural profiles in males & females with EEG+fMRI – University of Ottawa

The Lab

Our laboratory uses clinical electroencephalography (EEG) and neuroimaging techniques (e.g. functional magnetic resonance imaging), coupled with various clinical and cognitive assessment tools, to better understand mental illness. We also assess the effects of various interventions (e.g. exercise, stimulation therapies, drugs) on neural, clinical and cognitive features. Importantly, we attempt to characterize neural profiles that may be predictive of treatment response. Much of our laboratory’s work has focused on depression. However, we also examine brain features in individuals with schizophrenia, ADHD, dysfunctional anger as well as non-psychiatric populations.

The Position

The postdoctoral fellow will be tasked to conduct an NSERC-funded research study examining gender differences in neural profiles between males/females using simultaneous EEG+fMRI. Neural features will be examined in relation to biological measures (estrogen, testosterone and cortisol).

The selected postdoctoral fellow will also have an opportunity to assist in the acquisition/data analyses on one of two projects in clinical samples (depressed, schizophrenia). Within this role, he/she will be expected to assist Dr. Jaworska in the mentoring of undergraduate and graduate students in the laboratory, in manuscript preparation and in grant writing.

Academic qualifications and requirements

  • PhD in neuroscience, psychology, biomedical science or related disciplines.
  • Demonstrated experience in human research and/or cognitive or computational neuroscience.

Required: Neuroimaging analyses (preferred: SPM, CONN) or EEG analyses. Some computational neuroscience experience preferred.
Optimal: Experience in simultaneous EEG+fMRI acquisition & analyses.

Research Technician TCNLab at Western University

A Research Technician position is available immediately under the supervision of Dr. Lisa Saksida and Dr. Tim Bussey in the Translational Cognitive Neuroscience Lab (TCNLab) and BrainsCAN Rodent Cognition Core (RCC) at The University of Western Ontario. The research carried out by the TCNLab and the RCC teams combines neurobiological techniques for manipulating and observing brain circuits (e.g., DREADDs, optogenetics, pharmacology, transgenic and knockout mouse models, viral vectors, fibre photometry) with sophisticated analysis of cognition using mainly touchscreen-based assessment systems.

The Research Technician will assist with the research conducted in the TCNLab and the RCC at many levels. They will be expected to have a high degree of technical expertise and will help coordinate the general day-to-day operations in the TCNLab and in the RCC. They will gain proficiency in the scientific techniques used in the lab, and will develop and maintain SOPs and train lab members in their use. The Research Technician will be responsible for maintaining lab space, lab equipment and managing supplies. They will interact with work in collaboration with other lab staff, postdoctoral fellows and students.

Cognitive neuroscience in health and disease is a major research focus at Western, which is currently supported by BrainsCAN, a $66M Canada First Research Excellence Fund grant awarded to Western in 2016. The Robarts Research Institute and the Brain and Mind Institute together create a vibrant neuroscience research community with many opportunities for collaborations. Undergraduate or Masters degree in Life Sciences, prior experience in rodent models of brain disease, molecular and cellular biology, optogenetics and/or DREADDs will be an asset. Tenure Track Faculty Position in Behavioural Neuroscience – Concordia University, Montreal

The Department of Psychology at Concordia University in Montreal invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in behavioural neuroscience. The ideal candidate should have a record of innovative research on fundamental neurobiological mechanisms of behaviour using rodents as a model species.

Research approaches including but not limited to molecular, cellular, systems, and computational neuroscience will be considered. This position will build on existing strengths in research on addiction, motivation, cognition, learning and memory, biological rhythms and neurophysiology at Concordia. The successful applicant will become a full member of The Center for Studies in Behavioral Neurobiology, and will have access to state-of-the-art facilities at Concordia University, including the PERFORM center, the Center for Microscopy and Cell Imaging and the Center for Biological Applications of Mass Spectrometry. We anticipate filling this position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor.

Qualifications
Eligible applicants require a PhD in Psychology, Neuroscience or relevant field, and a strong record of publication in peer-reviewed, scientific journals. We are looking for a self-driven, emerging or established researcher with exceptional potential to become a leader in their field. Applicants should also be able to demonstrate a strong interest in and commitment to graduate and undergraduate teaching and training.

Applicants should outline an innovative research program with the potential to attract external funding and high calibre trainees.
