2018 Call for parallel symposia

CAN-ACN Symposia Abstract Submission Information – Parallel Symposium

Final deadline for submission was December 6th.  Thank you all for your submissions.

The format of the CAN meeting will consist of:

  • morning Plenary Symposia and Distinguished Lectures
  • afternoon Parallel Symposia and poster sessions throughout the day

Members in good standing of the Association can submit parallel symposia proposals. We will be openly requesting proposals for Parallel Symposia that cover a wide range of topics in both basic and translational neuroscience.

Parallel Symposia are 1.5 hours long and will be chosen based on scientific merit and whether the topic was not covered recently; a balance of junior and senior faculty, and genders of speakers is encouraged. We also wish to ensure that a wide range of neuroscience topics are represented in various symposia.

The Chair may or may not be a speaker and the total number of speakers in the session should be at least 3, or a maximum of 4. Please note we cannot provide any support for travel or other expenses for symposium speakers.

Preference will be given to speakers who have not given presentations at CAN-ACN Meetings in the last 2 years. Recent speakers can, however, act as a Chair of parallel symposia.

If you would like to organize a symposium, please submit your proposal online, between October 25 and December 6, 2017. Only members in good standing can submit a proposal.

Information required for submission:

  • Title of symposium
  • Symposium Chair: Name, university affiliation and type of position, contact information and email:
  • For each speaker: University affiliation and type of position, contact information and email
  • Title of talk
  • Abstract for symposium (max 150 words)
  • Recent publications on the topic by the speakers

All proposals will be evaluated by the 2018 Scientific Program Committee, and the committee will choose twelve for presentation at the Canadian Neuroscience meeting in Montreal.

If your submission is accepted, all symposium speakers listed will be required to submit an individual abstract no later than January 30, 2018.

Please note that after a symposium has been reviewed and accepted, substitution of speakers will not be accepted, unless under exceptional circumstances and at the discretion of the program committee. Any speaker substitutions may result in your symposium being re-evaluated.
