 The Rady Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Manitoba is seeking applications for a full‐time tenured or tenure track position at the rank of Assistant Professor commencing as early as August 1, 2024 or as soon as possible thereafter. The successful candidate will have a PhD degree or equivalent, a minimal postdoctoral experience of 2-3 years, have demonstrated excellent research productivity, and employ innovative approaches in the molecular neurosciences and/or brain tumor biology with the potential for multidisciplinary and translational research collaborations. This position will intersect with and support the department’s research strengths in brain tumors (primary and metastatic), neurosciences and cell stress mechanisms. The department houses the electron microscopy core platform and the histology service facility of the Rady Faculty of Health Sciences, as well as the departmental microscopy imaging suite and the brain tumor cell and tissue resource in support of translational brain tumor research. The candidate will have access to 3D imaging, super-resolution and confocal imaging, transmission electron microscopy, histomorphology facilities, a recently expanded zebrafish facility, and an established mammalian animal facility with animal imaging capabilities (PET-MRI, micro-CT, IVIS bioluminescence and ultrasound). They also have access to research services and other core platforms at the RFHS, such as proteomics & systems biology, flow cytometry, live-cell imaging, central animal core and transgenic facilities, and statistical genomics and bioinformatics.

The Department of Human Anatomy and Cell Science has a strong track record of teaching microscopic and macroscopic human anatomy, neuroanatomy, and embryology to different educational programs in the Health Professions at the undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate level. This position will fill a need to support current and planned program expansions in the College of Medicine, including increased enrolments in Medicine and the Master of Physician Assistant Studies (MPAS) program.

The Department seeks an outstanding and visionary early career scholar committed to the study of Synthetic Biology with novel applications to eukaryotic systems including but not limited to regulatory networks and circuit design, metabolic engineering, molecular pharming, or RNA biology and applications. Position description

The Department of Psychiatry at McGill University and the Douglas Research Centre are currently inviting applications for two full-time contract academic staff positions at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor in the field of Single Cell Genomics applied to the brain and mental disorders.

Applicants with expertise and relevant experience developing new methodologies or applying established single cell approaches to animal or cell models of mental disorders or in the postmortem brain study of psychiatric disorders are encouraged to apply. This will be a three-year, renewable academic appointment at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor and does not confer eligibility for tenure.

The DRC has been at the forefront of pioneering innovative methods in the field of psychiatry, including single-cell neurobiology and has recently secured significant funding for a research program focused on using single-cell approaches to gain insights into the brain and its related disorders.

Job Duties

The successful candidate will conduct rigorous cutting-edge research augmenting the existing efforts of the DRC. They will develop a fundamental, disease-relevant research program in their own areas of expertise, aligned with the strategic priorities of the Research Centre and the Department of Psychiatry. They are further expected to independently acquire funds to support the training of graduate students at the MSc and Ph.D. level. They must disseminate research findings through peer-reviewed publications and other knowledge translation and exchange activities, participate actively in all aspects of the Research Centre and McGill’s academic mission and demonstrate a strong commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion in all areas (i.e., research, teaching, supervision of graduate students, and involvement in academic and administrative committees).

The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to formal classroom teaching at McGill.

Assistant Professor, Department of Anatomy, Physiology, and Pharmacology – University of Saskatchewan

Applications are invited from qualified individuals for up to two (2) full time, tenure-track Assistant Professor positions in the Department of Anatomy, Physiology, and Pharmacology (APP) at the University of Saskatchewan, to begin July 1, 2024.

The successful candidate(s) will have a PhD degree in any area of anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, or cell or developmental biology and should have post-doctoral experience in a related research field. Key selection criteria will include research excellence, originality, and potential for research impact. Neuroscience and Mental health – Assistant Professor – CERVO Brain Research Centre, Université Laval

The CERVO Brain Research Centre (cervo.ulaval.ca), affiliated with Université Laval, is seeking applications for an Assistant Professor position that could begin as early as July 2024. This recruitment is made possible by the remarkable growth of the Research Centre in recent years and several major initiatives funded by the Canadian and Quebec governments. The selected candidate will be presented to join Université Laval through its internal competitions.

CERVO hosts more than 80 principal investigators and a total of 550 graduate students, post-docs, and staff scientists. The Centre is devoted exclusively to the study of neurosciences, mental health, and addiction. Its mission is to advance knowledge about the causes and treatments of neurological and psychiatric illnesses by developing new technologies and methodologies to unravel the mysteries of the brain and by continuously linking basic and clinical research. This is pursued by multidisciplinary approaches and the centre’s strong expertise in Cellular and Molecular Neurosciences, Systems Neurosciences, Clinical and Cognitive Neurosciences, Psychiatry, Neurophotonics, Optics/Photonics, Mathematics, and Artificial Intelligence. Emphasis is put on collaborative research across these disciplines.

Applicants must have a PhD or MD/PhD and a post-doctoral training, with an excellent record of research productivity. The successful candidates will have demonstrated ability or outstanding potential to develop an internationally recognized research program in the Neurosciences and Mental Health, together with the capacity of securing competitive research grants. Teaching interests will be an asset. The recruited candidates will be expected to supervise graduate students.

The Department of Molecular and Cellular Biology at the University of Guelph invites applications from Black scholars for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor. We are seeking outstanding candidates whose research interests will complement existing strengths in the Department. The successful applicant is expected to establish an innovative and sustainable research program that will integrate with and expand the Department’s research strengths and offer new avenues for collaboration. We are particularly interested in candidates with research expertise in the following areas, especially those that bridge more than one:

  • Biochemistry and biochemical approaches, including enzymology, structural biology, membrane and nucleic acid biochemistry, enzymology, biophysics or other methods.
  • Molecular and cellular biology, including signal transduction, membrane-less organelles, or RNA biology using research models that include invertebrates, vertebrates, immortalized cell lines, or patient-derived stem cells focusing on biomedical applications.
  • Microbiology, immunology and virology, including host-pathogen interactions, immune response mechanisms, microbiome analysis, antimicrobial resistance and vaccine development for viral, fungal and bacterial pathogens.
  • Plant biology, synthetic biology and biotechnology, including engineering of metabolic pathways, genomics and computational biology, genetic circuit design, and plant/microbial interactions to enhance plant productivity.
  • Genetics, including epigenetic mechanisms, genomics and bioinformatics, molecular genetics, g ene regulation, and genetic diseases in plants, animals, and microbial systems.
  • Neuroscience, including neurobiology, neurophysiology, neurodevelopment, synaptic plasticity, neuroimmunology, and the study of brain disorders using cellular and animal models.

Qualifications include a Ph.D., a preferred minimum of three years of relevant postdoctoral experience, a proven record of research excellence evident in high-quality publications and demonstrated potential to establish a competitive independent research program and secure external research funding. The successful candidate will join a dynamic, multidisciplinary, research-intensive department with 40 faculty members who study diverse biological systems at levels from molecules to cells that include Biochemistry, Microbiology, Molecular Biology & Genetics, and Neuroscience and contributes to programs in Biological Science, Biomedical Science, and Plant Science. Faculty within the College of Biological Science are members of the Advanced Analysis Centre, which houses state-of-the-art equipment that include facilities for solution- and solid-state NMR spectroscopy, mass spectrometry, electron and confocal microscopy, and genomics. Graduate student training activities are focused on M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in Molecular and Cellular Biology, and faculty members also participate in programs such as Biotechnology, Biophysics, Bioinformatics, Neuroscience, Plant Science, and Toxicology.

Position Profile:

The Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, at Western University, is inviting applications for the position of Earl Russell Chair in Pain Management. The successful candidate will take a leadership role as the Earl Russell Chair in Pain Management through their research program. Applicants should have: 1) familiarity with, and deep commitment to the treatment of pain 2) experience and expertise in working in an interdisciplinary setting 3) leadership skills and experience in creating an effective team to study pain, 4) well developed teaching and interpersonal skills, and 5) an accomplished research track-record in pain. The successful candidate will be appointed in the department that most appropriately fits their expertise with a potential cross appointment in a relevant basic science department.

Academic and Clinical Expectations:

The candidate will have protected research time within the appointed department. Clinicians who have a devoted research commitment to studying pain, and fellowship training or clinical experience with treating pain patients, are encouraged to apply. Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will have an MD or equivalent degree and will hold or be appointed at the rank of Associate or Full Professor with continuing (Clinical Academic) appointment, depending on qualifications and experience. The successful candidate will have completed a residency from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada or equivalent and fellowship training in a field related to pain medicine. The candidate should have or be eligible for registration by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario and should have or be eligible to attain active hospital privileges at London Health Sciences Centre and/or St. Joseph’s Health Care London.

Compensation Details:

The Chair appointment is for a five-year period, with the possibility of renewal for one additional term pending review recommendation.
