Postdoctoral Researcher in Proteostasis and Alzheimer’s disease and Tauopathies – University of Toronto

The Yu lab at the University of Toronto is seeking a motivated postdoctoral researcher to immediately join a collaborative project investigating proteostasis and impact of risk factors like sleep or vascular impairment in neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer’s and other tauopathies. The researcher must have experience in neurosciences (specifically understanding of neural networks, neuroanatomy, EEG/ephys) systems and cell biology, and biochemistry. Specific skill sets needed for this research include immunohistochemical and biochemical analyses, as well as identifying transcriptomic and proteomic signatures.  Proven communication skills are also essential for a successful candidate.

 

The successful candidate will work with a team of clinical and preclinical researchers as well as be part of an international collaborative team focused on understanding the underlying mechanisms of neurodegeneration and translational opportunities, including biomarkers of disease and therapeutic intervention.  The candidate will join a highly productive group and learn and gain insight in neurosciences from University-wide, national and international meetings and lectures.

 

Key responsibilities

  • Examine the role of proteostasis in mouse models of neurodegeneration, including tau using biochemical/proteomic, immunohistochemical/microscopy, transcriptomic methods
  • Perform data analysis and prepare high-quality manuscripts of findings for publication
  • Present findings at international conferences
  • Contribute to drafting and development of new grant proposals
  • Mentor and assist in the supervision of graduate and undergraduate students in the laboratory, as well as work with preclinical and clinical staff in the group

 

Requirements

  • Doctoral-level (Ph.D. or M.D.) training in the disciplines of biochemistry, neurosciences, pharmacology, physiology, cell biology or related fields is preferred.  A strong grounding in neurosciences and understanding of complex systems is helpful for this project.
  • Research experience in the areas of proteinopathy, autophagy, neuroinflammation, bioinformatics (transcriptomic/proteomic analysis), assay and biomarker development are considered assets.
  • A strong record of peer-reviewed publications as listed in the CV
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience participating in or facilitating research collaborations, e.g., co-authorship on multiteam publications

 

Duration of appointment: Initial one-year appointment with the possibility of renewal for up to three years
