We are searching for individuals with exceptional promise to develop a vibrant, externally funded research program. While we encourage applications from candidates studying any aspect of Biological Psychiatry, we are particularly interested in applicants who will build a research program focused on platforms capable of screening for microglial mechanisms and pro-inflammatory processes across a range of disease models as they relate to neuropsychiatry. The research program is expected to underpin unique translational studies in personalized medicine. A competitive start-up package is available to facilitate this. The successful candidate will also show a strong commitment to undergraduate and graduate teaching, as well as Psychiatry residency training.

The successful applicant will join a department that is undergoing significant renewal, particularly in the areas of Biological Psychiatry. The department has several areas of research strength encompassing cellular and molecular biological as well as bioinformatics investigator-led programs focused Alzheimer disease, depression, suicidality, mood instability, forensics, and alternative treatment modalities, all of which offer many opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration. Qualifications

Applicants must have a PhD degree and post-doctoral experience in a biomedical discipline relevant to the position and a demonstrated ability to conduct original, innovative research. Applicants must also provide evidence of teaching at multiple levels as well as demonstrate a track record of research awards. The ideal candidate will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and show an interest in fostering collaborations with faculty members in the department and elsewhere on campus.

Salary band for this position at the rank of Assistant Professor for the 2022-2023 academic year is $98,178 to $117,978. Chair, Department of Cellular and Molecular Medicine, University of Ottawa

The University of Ottawa and its Faculty of Medicine (FoM) invite applications for a dynamic academic leader as Chair of the Department of Cellular and Molecular Medicine (CMM). The University of Ottawa is the first and the largest Canadian bilingual institution of higher learning and research. The department is also home to two interdisciplinary graduate programs in CMM and Neuroscience, with close to 300 trainees within the graduate (MSc, PhD, MD/PhD) and postdoctoral/residency programs.  Finally, through its varied educational and research initiatives, the department of CMM and the Faculty of Medicine have established a strong presence on the international scene with formal partnerships with institutions around the world.

In alignment with the Faculty’s and University’s priorities, the Chair of CMM is responsible for setting the strategic direction of the department and overseeing all of its operational aspects.  More specifically, the Chair is responsible for: i) the development and delivery of undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate curricula; ii) creating a diverse, equitable, inclusive and supportive environment for learning, engagement and research; iii) promoting and supporting the involvement of its members in scholarly work, research, education and creative activities; iv) stewardship of the human and financial resources of the department; v) representing the department within the Faculty and University; and vi) liaising with the professional and the local community outside of the University.

  • PhD or MD/PhD degree, with an internationally recognized track record in research in one or more disciplines relevant to CMM;

About the Department

The Pediatrics Department has 74 professors, including 10 recognized research teams led by clinical investigators or fundamental researchers.

Members of the department teach in the MD program and the graduate programs in Immunology, Physiology, Health Sciences, Radiation/Imaging Sciences and Biochemistry. The ongoing construction of the new mother-child care centre will soon provide the ideal conditions for the transfer of knowledge in areas ranging from preclinical research to pediatric patients.

Profile desired

We are seeking exceptional candidates with expertise in basic sciences who are able to carry out innovative research programs in the field of cerebral neuroinflammation applied to neonatology and pediatrics. The Department of Pediatrics is especially eager to bridge the gap between research in neonatal respiratory pathologies—which represents a 40-year-old tradition—and research centres in neuroscience, imaging and physiology. The availability of ovine models, which is unique to Canada, is a major asset in the development of a research theme in neonatal and pediatric neuroinflammation, as ovine models allow for faithful reproduction of the care provided to newborns and infants in the context of intensive care. The successful candidate must establish and maintain an independent, externally funded research program and obtain salary support from external sources (e.g. FRQS). The successful candidate must collaborate actively with researchers in the Department of Pediatrics, especially with the ovine research team. The candidate is also expected to collaborate with researchers from the Université de Sherbrooke Centre of Excellence for Maternal-Child Research—a key theme of which is neurodevelopment—and with members of the Université de Sherbrooke Centre of Excellence for Neurosciences. Collaborations may also be developed with researchers from the Department of Immunology and Cell Biology and the Sherbrooke Molecular Imaging Centre. These internationally recognized groups constitute ideal settings for the development of an active and innovative research program and strong leadership in the field of cerebral neuroinflammation on the national and international stages. All Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences researchers have access to state-of-the-art scientific equipment and to an interdisciplinary research environment.

The successful candidate must teach at all undergraduate and graduate levels. Knowledge of French, or a commitment to learn the language in the short term, is essential.

  • Have a keen interest for and be highly skilled in teaching, university pedagogy, research, development, and innovation.
  • Demonstrate leadership qualities, initiative and an outstanding ability to communicate and effectively and harmoniously interact with various internal and external partners.
  • Demonstrate the ability to lead graduate students.
  • Have a publication record testifying to the excellence of the researcher’s file in the field identified above.
  • Demonstrate skills in establishing and maintaining good interpersonal relations, a collaborative spirit and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to teach in French, or to rapidly achieve the ability to do so (2 years).

Work conditions

The working conditions are governed by the collective agreement in effect between the University and the Association des professeures et professeurs de la Faculté de médecine de l’Université de Sherbrooke (APPFMUS).

The successful candidate will have an MD and/or PhD, postdoctoral training experience with a highly productive track-record of impactful scholarly activity, inspire learning and a strong commitment to excellence in pharmacology and therapeutics education. Evidence of teaching experience is considered an asset. The appointed candidate will be expected to teach throughout the DPT program to support the educational advancement of undergraduate and graduate students in the core theoretical knowledge of drug action, including relevant methodological concepts. They will also have a prominent role in developing and executing the DPT strategic educational plan, which is likely to encompass activities such as development of new courses, market-driven micro-credentials, career development initiatives for trainees, and national training programs. Western University in London, Ontario, Canada seeks applicants for a Director of the Western Institute for Neuroscience (WIN) Research. Applicants who can demonstrate outstanding leadership in research, training, and outreach in the field of neuroscience are encouraged to apply. Candidates should also be recognized internationally for research relevant to neuroscience. The successful candidate will hold a tenure or continuing academic appointment at the rank of Associate or Full Professor with (commensurate with qualifications and experience), in the most appropriate Department/School and Faculty. As Director, the candidate will hold a Western Research Chair (Leadership) and join an interdisciplinary network of collaborative researchers, graduate students, postdoctoral fellows and/or clinician-scientists for a 3 to 5-year terms that is renewable once. The position will commence as soon as October 1, 2022 or as negotiated.

Reporting to the Vice President (Research), the Director will advance the WIN at Western University as an entity known internationally for its impact on research and knowledge mobilization across a range of specialties that include tools and technologies, basic science and applied research, in accordance with the research vision and mission. Towards this goal, the Director will identify, and enable access to, opportunities that expand the Institute’s research mission through the development of partnerships and fund-raising. Also, the Director will engage frequently with a Governing Board, the Executive Committee as well as internal and external Advisory Boards regarding strategy and vision. The Director will inspire research excellence and actively implement processes that mobilize and support interdisciplinary research teams within the Institute. This is an exciting time of growth for our Psychology Department. We are conducting searches for five positions in the Industrial-Organizational, Applied Social, Clinical, and Neuroscience and Applied Cognitive Science areas. As such, the successful candidate will join the department together with a cohort of enthusiastic and well-supported early career scholars. Interested applicants should submit the following materials (preferably as a single PDF file): (1) a cover letter; (2) a curriculum vitae; (3) a statement of research interests detailing the candidate’s specific area of expertise, plan of future independent research program (including how this program might be leveraged to obtain extramural funding), ways the candidate’s research program will synergize with the Department’s research environment; (4) a teaching statement detailing the candidate’s teaching philosophy, evidence of teaching excellence (or potential for excellence), and strategies used to promote inclusion and support a diverse community in research lab and classrooms settings. The statement may include teaching experiences across undergraduate and graduate classroom-based teaching (e.g., names of courses one has taught or could teach), research advising, and mentorship; (5) up to three representative publications (including a brief synopsis of their impact or potential for impact and how they fit within the planned research program), and (6) the names, roles, and contact information of three research/academic references.
