The role/Te mahi

Applications are invited for the position of Lecturer in Neurobiology. We are seeking a person with a relevant doctorate and demonstrated potential to develop as an outstanding researcher and teacher in an aspect of neurobiology, especially (but not limited to) computational neuroscience and/or comparative and evolutionary neuroscience.

Applicants are encouraged to identify the manner in which they will complement existing strengths in the Department and develop new and innovative directions in research and teaching.

Applications from candidates with a background in any aspect of neurobiology and a focus on animals, especially non-mammalian species, are strongly encouraged; Xenopus, zebrafish and Drosophila are readily accessible, as are an array of non-model animal species in Dunedin’s immediate environs. Position Description:

The Department of Molecular and Cellular Biology at the University of Guelph invites applications for two tenure-track positions, at the rank of Assistant Professor, in the area of Neuroscience.

Assistant Professor (Tenure Track) Department of Psychiatry, Mood and Anxiety – McGill University

Position description

The Department of Psychiatry at McGill University and the Douglas Research Centre are currently inviting applications for a full-time tenure track position in the field of molecular psychiatry, with a focus on the neurobiology of mood and anxiety disorders. This will be a three-year, renewable appointment. We are seeking applicants working with animal models who have a strong expertise in the molecular/genomic characterization of brain circuitries. Expertise in single-cell approaches constitutes an asset. The successful applicant will hold an academic appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor.

Job Duties

The successful candidate will be expected to conduct cutting-edge research in the field of mood and anxiety disorders, developing a fundamental, disease-relevant research program  augmenting current work in this topic area in the Research Centre and Department of Psychiatry. They will be expected to independently acquire funds to support the training of graduate students at the MSc and Ph.D. level, disseminate research findings through peer-reviewed publications and other knowledge translation and exchange activities, and participate actively in all aspects of the Research Centre and McGill’s academic missions.

Tenure-Track Assistant or Associate Professor in the Cognitive Neuroscience of Music – McMaster University

McMaster is known internationally for the scientific study of music. The McMaster Institute for Music and the Mind (MIMM) involves an interdisciplinary group of researchers from Psychology, Neuroscience, Kinesiology, Engineering, Music, and Health Science, who conduct fundamental and applied research related to music. MIMM houses the unique LIVELab (https://livelab.mcmaster.ca), a 106-seat research concert hall with exquisite active acoustic control and the capacity to measure movement, EEG and other physiology simultaneously in interacting musicians and audience members.

We seek a researcher who studies fundamental mechanisms and/or applied questions related to the cognitive neuroscience of music. Areas of interest include, but are not limited to, sensorimotor processes underlying perception and performance; coordination between musicians; neural encoding of music; effects of experience and culture; physiological synchrony in musicians and audience members; the role of music in optimal development and/or mental health and wellbeing; the protective value of music against cognitive decline in aging; music and developmental disabilities; and improvisation and creativity. Expertise in computational modelling, measurement and analysis of EEG and other physiological signals, and movement analysis would be an asset.

Although opportunities exist to collaborate with researchers using non-human primates, the successful candidate will be expected to conduct research in the Department of Psychology animal facilities that are designed to support research using rodent, feline, and avian species. These facilities have equipment and spaces designed to facilitate the integration of a wide range of behavioural assays with measures of underlying neural activity. This is a full-time faculty position for a period of three years (renewable).  Academic rank will be commensurate with the candidate’s qualifications and experience.

Applicants will have completed training in neurology and specialty training in neuro-oncology. Academic Neurologist – Niagara Campus

The Department of Cellular & Physiological Sciences and The International Collaboration on Repair Discoveries (ICORD) at The University of British Columbia (UBC) invites applications for a full-time faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor (tenure track).

ICORD is partnering with the UBC Department of Cellular & Physiological Sciences to seek an outstanding basic science researcher with a focus on spinal cord injury (SCI) and the recovery and regeneration of the injured spinal cord.

ICORD (www.icord.org) is an internationally renowned interdisciplinary research group with 45 principal investigators collaborating on its vision to make SCI preventable, livable, and curable. ICORD has its home in a 10,000 m2 state-of-the art research facility on the Vancouver General Hospital campus, shared with our partner the Vancouver Coastal Health’s Brenda and David McLean Integrated Spine Clinic.

The Department of Cellular & Physiological Sciences does world-class research aimed at understanding the fundamental workings of cells and organisms in an effort to identify the underlying causes of human diseases. The Department’s research is diverse, with Investigators working in a wide range of the leading invertebrate and vertebrate model systems and using biochemical, molecular genetic, cellular and physiological approaches. The Department has particular strengths in neuroscience, endocrinology, development and cancer. The robust collaborative spirit between the Department’s Investigators drives increasingly multidisciplinary research programs in each laboratory. This includes the incorporation of the latest technologies in molecular biology, genetics, next-generation genomics, proteomics, bioinformatics, and genetically-engineered animal models to complement our expertise in cell biological and physiology. Reporting to the Department Head, the successful applicant will hold a PhD, MD, or equivalent with postdoctoral research experience in basic SCI research. Applicants are required to demonstrate a strong record of research productivity, with potential to establish a successful research program. The successful applicant will also have demonstrated or show potential for excellence in undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate teaching as well as supervision of students and trainees at all levels, and will be expected to participate actively in departmental and faculty endeavours. The incumbent will also show demonstrated ability in scholarly activity and will be expected to provide service to the University and the broader academic and professional community. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
