Organized by the CAN EDI Chairs Derya Sargin and Jenn Murray
Panel discussion focused on mobility requirements in academic hiring. We will talk about issues like:
- what kinds of expectations exist (for ex, the idea that you need to move to a super-lab outside Canada for a postdoc)
- who those expectations benefit
- who might be disadvantaged (like those who cannot move because of family or other commitments)
- who has the power to change things
- and whether systemic change is possible.
The panel includes discussants with diverse perspectives and experiences:
- Dr. Tamara Bodnar (Assistant Professor, University of Calgary)
- Dr. Ibukun Akinrinade (Postdoctoral researcher, University of Calgary)
- Dr. Catharine Winstanley (Professor, UBC)
- Dr. Gareth Rurak (Postdoctoral researcher, Washington University St. Louis)
