The research interests of Dr Girouard are the study of the mechanisms underlying cerebrovascular regulation in health and diseases especially in the context of hypertension and arterial stiffness. The main objective of her research is to find therapeutical targets to protect the brain from vascular diseases. To reach this objective, she uses various state-of-the-art techniques from molecular biology to brain imaging in living mice and humans.
We have a CIHR -funded positions for a PhD and a Postdoctoral Fellow to advance our studies in: 1) elucidating the mechanisms underlying sex differences and the effects of menopause on brain sensitivity to arterial stiffness in models of aging and Alzheimer’s disease and 2) deciphering the mechanisms underlying neurovascular coupling in health and diseases using in vivo and in vitro approaches such as 2 photons microscopy and optogenetic.

The lab is located at the French-language Université de Montréal and the geriatric institute, which are internationally renowned research environments.
