Content: | Based on a serendipitous finding in 1999 by Alaa El-Husseini, PSD-95 over expression in cultured hippocampal neurons was found to greatly enhance the number of synaptic AMPA receptors (El-Husseini et al., Science, 2000). This finding has created a very active area of research, not only in my own lab, but also in many other labs. In my talk I will highlight the central role that PSD-95 plays in orchestrating the assembly of both AMPA and NMDA receptors at the synapse during synaptogenesis and maturation. |
