Graduate (MS.c./Ph.D.) student position – Jing Wang Laboratory, Ottawa Hospital Research Institute

Graduate Student (MS.c./Ph.D.) position

Contact/Scientist: Dr. J.Wang

Program: Regenerative Medicine
The Ottawa Hospital Research Institute (OHRI) is an Affiliated Research Institute of the University of Ottawa and the research arm of The Ottawa Hospital. The OHRI has grown rapidly to become one of the largest and most important hospital-based research institutes in Canada.

Position available: a Graduate (MS.c./Ph.D.) student position

Description of the position:  Our research focuses on delineating molecular mechanisms that regulate proliferation and differentiation of adult neural stem cells, with the ultimate goal of defining ways to recruit the stem cells that are resident in the brains, and to thereby potentially promote neural repair.  The ongoing projects in the lab are targeting the aPKC-CBP pathway to promote adult neural stem cell differentiation and its therapeutic potential for brain repair. We are currently using stroke and multiple sclerosis as brain disease models to evaluate metformin (an antidiabetic drug) effect at improving stroke recovery and its underlying molecular mechanisms.  A variety of molecular, cellular, biochemical and behavioral techniques are used in the laboratory, including transgenic mouse models, primary cell culture, and co-IP and ChIP approaches.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Experience in Molecular Biology (cloning, mutagenesis, PCR), Cell Biology (cell line or primary cell culture, immunohistochemistry and immunocytochemistry) or in vivo animal model study.
  • Excellence at the academic level and in research
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

Deadline: Until the position is filled.

Individuals who are interested in the position should submit curriculum vitae, a copy of official transcripts, statement of research interest and names of three references to:
