Canada Research Chair (CRC) Tier II in Behavioural Neuroscience of the Adolescent Brain – University of Calgary

The Department of Psychology in the Faculty of Arts at the University of Calgary invites applications for a Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC) Canada Research Chair (CRC) Tier II in Behavioural Neuroscience of the Adolescent Brain. The successful candidate will be appointed at the rank of Assistant Professor (tenure-track) or Associate Professor (with tenure), and will be nominated for a CRC Tier II. The University of Calgary requires the successful candidate will have a PhD in neuroscience or psychology, and relevant post-doctoral experience. The anticipated start date is July 1, 2018.

Tier II Chairs are intended for exceptional emerging scholars (i.e., candidates must have been an active researcher in their field for fewer than 10 years at the time of nomination). Candidates who are more than 10 years from having earned their highest degree and who have had career breaks, such as maternity, parental, or extended sick leave, clinical training, etc., may have their eligibility for a Tier II Chair assessed through the program’s Tier II justification process. The Chair will establish an active research program that focuses on adolescent brain development, supported by external funding, and aligned with the University of Calgary’s, and the Faculty of Arts’ strategic plans. Additionally, the Chair will play an important role in teaching and research supervision of students in Psychology undergraduate and graduate programs. Service to the department, faculty, University, and community is also expected.

The Chair will have the opportunity to be part of a prolific and diverse research environment in the Department of Psychology, the Alberta Children’s Hospital Research Institute, and the Hotchkiss Brain Institute, with access to state of the art core infrastructure. Outstanding opportunities for collaboration are available with established research programs in child and adult mental health, developmental disorders, epilepsy, multiple sclerosis, traumatic brain injury, stroke, dementia, or movement disorders. If nomination for CRC Tier II is successful, the incumbent will be offered a 75% reduction in teaching for the duration of the Chair appointment.

The successful candidate at the Assistant Professor level must demonstrate evidence of a track record of publications in high quality journals, securing external research funding, and effectiveness in teaching at the University level.

The successful candidate at the Associate Professor level must demonstrate evidence of a strong track record of publications in high quality journals, evidence of securing ongoing external research funding, effectiveness in teaching at the University level, and evidence of effective graduate student supervision.
