Bates College invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor of neurobiology to be jointly appointed in the Department of Biology and Program in Neuroscience, beginning 1 August 2017. Ph.D. required by start date, and postdoctoral experience is preferred. The successful applicant’s teaching will include: an upper-level course in neurobiology with accompanying lab sections that include electrophysiology techniques; rotation through our introductory cellular/molecular biology course and upper-level cellular biochemistry course; and electives that serve biology and neuroscience majors, related fields of study, and general education requirements. The specific research area within neurobiology is open and may include, for example, neuropharmacology, neurotoxicology, neuroimmunology, neurogenetics, neurodevelopment, neuroendocrinology, or other specialties. Preference will be given to applicants whose research uses invertebrate models or cell culture.
Bates is committed to enhancing the diversity of the campus and the curriculum. We welcome applications from all individuals with the ability to contribute to the college’s continuing commitment to social and cultural diversity, inclusiveness, and the transformative power of our differences. The search committee expects the applicant to identify their strengths and experiences in these areas in their application and to describe how their research, teaching, and/or outreach can further this goal.
Review of applications begins 19 September 2016, and will continue until the position is filled. Applicants should submit electronically, via Interfolio, a cover letter, curriculum vitae, unofficial graduate transcripts, a teaching statement, a research statement that includes plans for involving undergraduates in a research program, and a diversity statement. For this last item, please describe how your teaching, scholarship, mentorship, and/or service would support the college’s historical and ongoing commitment to diversity and inclusion. Please also arrange for the Interfolio submission of three letters of recommendation. Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a background check. http://apply.interfolio.com/36213
